Course Overview

This course has been designed specifically for mature students who do not have the relevant qualifications for entry to higher education.

Students will attend college four days a week between 9.30am and 3.30 in the afternoon. Candidates will be assigned a personal tutor who will support studies and personal development.

Good time-management skills are necessary as assessment of the course is on an on-going basis.

The curriculum is structured. Core units are delivered together with the cohorts of the other Access courses at BCoT. The specialist social work and sociology units are delivered to the social work students separately. There are weekly tutorials where one-to-ones take place and learners set their own targets for the development of specific skills and knowledge. This includes completion of the UCAS process. All resources, assignments are available on the Google Classrooms for your use and specific resources for eLearning sessions are updated weekly.

  • Approaches to Counselling
  • Communication and Presentation
  • Reviewing and Planning.

Assessment

This course is assessed in a variety of ways with assignments including: presentations, discussions, tests, projects, practical work, problem solving exercises, essays, scientific reports, diagrams and interviews.

This course is designed to get you to University and is worth between 48 and 144 UCAS points (for September entry), depending on the grade you achieve.
