This is your opportunity to expose yourself to an intensive research environment. You will develop expertise in research and learn the concepts, methods and skills required to apply knowledge with creativity and initiative to new situations. The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is awarded on the basis of independent supervised study that produces a substantial piece of research as judged by independent experts of international standing.

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Griffith University is the largest community of criminologists in Australia and is recognised as a leading department globally.

At Griffith, criminology is a multidisciplinary field of study, drawing on psychology, law, sociology, politics and human services. Our undergraduate degree is the only one in Queensland backed by 'well above world standard' research. That knowledge feeds into the most up-to-date study content, giving you the best skills for an employment edge.

The Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) 2015 results rated Griffith’s criminology research a “5” - well above world standard. Evaluated by the Australian Research Council, university research areas are rated 1-5 based on the quality of research, with 5 the highest.

Griffith was one of only two universities in Australia to be awarded a rating of "well above world standard" in criminology research. This rating is recognition of the strength and depth of the many world-class criminology scholars we have at Griffith University.

For standard entry into most master degrees, you must hold a bachelor degree or higher (or equivalent) from a recognized university. You must meet minimum Grade Point Average entry requirements. IELTS: minimum score of 6.5, with no subscore less than 6.0 or TOEFL: a minimum score of 575 or Internet-based (IBT) TOEFL: a score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19) or Pearson Test of English (Academic): an overall score of 58 with no score less than 50 or ISLPR: no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR.
