The Nanotechnology and Clean Energy specialization within the Physics program is designed to meet the urgent demand for graduates with the knowledge and skills to address global issues of escalating energy consumption and declining resources. It emphasizes alternative and conventional energy, with a particular focus on the application of nanotechnology to developing clean energy solutions. Students will learn the scientific principles underlying the field of nanotechnology along with the development of novel and economical means of generating and harvesting energy, while simultaneously minimizing the environmental impact.

In addition to the regular program, a co-op program is also available. Students in Nanotechnology and Clean Energy interested in the co-op program, should contact the Faculty of Science Co-op Coordinator as early as the fall of their second year.

The Faculty of Business and Information Technology offers a Finance minor specifically for students in Physics.

Students must have completed a Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate and Huikao, or similar provincial examination results. Applicants are required to submit both their academic transcript indicating all subjects taken and grades achieved and a copy of their graduation certificate and results. Students are required to complete international academic qualification equivalent to Canada Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Applicants must complete the appropriate number of courses and the program-specific subject prerequisites in their secondary school or post-secondary studies prior to pursuing university-level studies. English language proficiency requirements: International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Overall score of 6.5 with no sub-score less than 6.0, Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): Minimum score of 85. Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Minimum score of 58, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Internet-based test (iBT) with a total score of 83, and minimum scaled scores of Listening: 20; Reading: 20; Speaking: 19; and Writing: 20.
