The Bachelor of Applied Management aims to produce graduates with the personal and professional skills necessary to be successful in demanding and evolving business environments, whether locally, nationally, or internationally.

The programme offers a blend of theoretical and practical learning, with an emphasis on applied knowledge and skill. High importance is placed on the development of the soft skills for management (such as communication, business writing, presentation, interpersonal, and problem solving skills), in addition to the development of specific business knowledge and skills.

Programme Structure

Project Management major: 360 credits total

Year One: 120 credits
Compulsory papers: MGT100, 101, 103, 104 & 105 (15 credits each)
Elective papers: 45 credits made up of three additional papers from the Year 1 electives list: MGT102, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114 or 115 (15 credits each)

Year Two: 120 credits
Compulsory papers: MGT200, 206, 209, 210, 211, 212, 213, 214 (15 credits each)

Year Three: 120 credits
Compulsory papers: MGT301, 302, 303, 309 (15 credits each) and one of: MGT310 or MGT320 (30 credits)
Elective papers: 30 credits made up of two additional papers from the Year 2 or Year 3 elective lists: MGT201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 207, 208, 215, 216, 217, 218, 219, 220, 221, 222, 223, or MGT304, 305, 306, 308, 312. (15 credits each)

Career Opportunities

At the completion of the programme, students will:

• Demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to the various areas of applied management, including key ideas, principles, and concepts associated with the theory and application of papers;
• Be confident, capable, and professional practitioners and learners;
• Gather and assess information from a variety of sources, undertake analysis of this data, and use this to solve problems;
• Be able to think critically, analyse relevant issues, and discuss these within the context of management in a logical and competent manner;
• Understand, apply, and communicate principles and concepts within the applicable management sector; and
• Have developed professional knowledge and applied skills appropriate for the needs of clients within the applicable management sector.

Project Management major

In addition to the skills listed for the overall programme, graduates from the Bachelor of Applied Management with a major in Project Management will critically analyse strategic issues facing organisations, develop and implement appropriate policies and develop and implement procedures and processes to enable the successful implementation of specific projects, which are outside the ‘business as usual’ scope of operations.

Educational Pathways

Further educational opportunities for graduates may include enrolling in postgraduate study, for example the SIT Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise.

Employment Pathways

Graduates will be qualified to work in a range of project management disciplines in both the public and private sectors.
