Why Digital and Social Media Marketing? Digital, mobile and social media are changing the world and this course gives you the chance to be at the forefront of these exciting developments. You could find out how social media can be used as a marketing platform by businesses worldwide. You could also explore new technologies like app design and augmented reality, and learn how to manage and implement digital marketing campaigns. Businesses are increasingly investing in digital marketing and research indicates that 59% of marketing jobs are in the digital industry. You’ll gain an Institute of Data and Marketing (IDM) accredited degree and the chance to apply for a placement working for well-known companies such as Huddersfield Town, The Baby Room and Freeman Gratton Holdings. How will you learn? You will learn through practical application and delivered lectures, workshops, seminars and group work sessions. There is such a wide variety of social media, so we’ll give you the chance to try different channels and tactics at every possibility. From producing, directing and editing videos to designing, costing and implementing websites and apps. You’ll look at managing email marketing campaigns. Search engine optimisation (SEO) and how to use augmented reality as part of your techniques. But how do people know if their digital marketing campaigns are successful? We’ll cover that too, giving you the chance to find out how to monitor and engage with customers over social media platforms. And you could even take an optional placement year to gain real-life insight into what goes on in the digital world. In your third year we’ll give you the opportunity to take a placement year that could see you working in a business and gaining real world experience. At Huddersfield we always aim to innovate. By keeping things fresh and up-to-the-minute, the course is designed to give you the opportunity to get a great head start in a marketing career. What subjects will you cover? You’ll explore subjects such as Digital Marketing in the Contemporary World, The Customer Experience, Web Management and Design, The Marketing Environment, Markets and Marketing and Customer Insight. The digital industry is growing rapidly with many very exciting marketing career opportunities. Businesses are increasingly investing in digital marketing campaigns and talent, because managers understand they provide a good return on investment. Digital & Social Media Marketing BA (Hons) develops marketing graduates with a combination of marketing knowledge and digital skills that is highly valued by employers. Given our understanding of hiring manager expectations, the degree provides students with opportunities to work on real digital marketing campaigns, to build up their CV. Successful completion of the IDM exam allows students to add industry-recognised credentials to their name (Cert DigM - Certificate in Digital Marketing and Cert DDM - Certificate in Direct and Digital Marketing), in addition to those for the degree. ~ Dr Raisa Yakimova, Senior Lecturer in Marketing. Our links with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) (http://www.cim.co.uk/), the key professional organisation for the marketing industry, give students access to a range of marketing industry events and guest speakers. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in The Pitch, a national competition run by the CIM involving the development of a marketing communications campaign for a well know brand.
