The Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Spanish Education culminates with the development of an Initial Competencies Portfolio, providing eligibility for candidates to apply for “A” licensure (initial licensure) from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The Master of Arts in Teaching is designed for candidates who have a bachelor’s degree but did not pursue teacher education or licensure as undergraduates. It requires 39 semester hours with 18 semester hours in the content area. All students are required to demonstrate proficiency in Phonetics.

All applicants must have obtained the following: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or appropriately-evaluated credentials for non-U.S. schools; satisfactory academic standing as an undergraduate or in a post-baccalaureate program. Non-native speakers of English must validate proficiency in the English language by one of three means: TOEFL: 79 (paper-based 550); IELTS: 6.5 Band Score; PTE: 67; and ELS: 112.
