Wichita State’s Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art will help you take your artistic talents and career to a higher level. This interdisciplinary program combines research, overseas travel, professional networking and community engagement. You’ll enjoy access to internationally acclaimed guest artists, private studio space and financial support through scholarships and teaching assistantships.

Curriculum

To complete this three-year program, every student takes MFA core courses, in addition to the required courses in their chosen disciplines. You may choose from the following disciplines:

Ceramics
Painting
Photo Media
Printmaking
Sculpture

You’ll also complete a terminal project in order to earn the MFA.

Applied Learning

Students in the MFA in studio art program are required to complete an applied learning or research experience to graduate from the program. The requirement can be met by the oral defense of the thesis exhibition, as well as the written thesis paper. Terminal project courses are required by each studio area.

Applicants for full-standing degree admission to the specialist and master’s programs typically must have: Earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or a recognized institution in another country whose requirements for the bachelor’s degree are substantially equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree. The minimum acceptable scores for most programs are: TOEFL - 79 on the Internet-based test, or 550 on the paper-based test. IELTS - minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required. PTE Academic - 58.
